Izumo Taisha: Gathering of the Gods, Japan’s Most Powerful Matchmaking Shrine!

Inasa no Hama: Sacred Sand Exchange Experience

Inasa no Hama is a well-known spiritual power spot and a popular location for the “Sacred Sand Prayer.” Legend says that the sand carried back by the very edge of the waves contains abundant good fortune, attracting many visitors to experience the sand exchange ritual.

※The sand must be exchanged at Soga Shrine behind Izumo Taisha.
※Note: Please refer to the immigration regulations of each country regarding whether sand can be brought into the country.
Umi Shrine: Cutting Off Bad Relationships

Before welcoming good relationships, cut off the bad ones first! Umi Shrine enshrines a sword spirit dedicated to severing negative ties, and its worship ritual is quite unique:
Worship Steps:
1️⃣ Write down the bad relationships you wish to cut off and the good ones you hope to welcome on the “relationship-cutting wooden plaque.”
2️⃣ Offer the plaque and pray following the ritual of “two bows, two claps, one bow.”
3️⃣ Split the plaque in half, gently blow on it, then place it into the “relationship-cutting box.”
4️⃣ Walk clockwise around the main hall once to complete the ritual.

Yaegaki Shrine: Mirror Pond Love Fortune Telling

At the “Mirror Pond” inside the shrine, you can perform a love fortune telling ritual. Gently place the fortune paper on the water and set a coin on top. If it sinks within 15 minutes, it means love is on its way. If it does not sink after more than 30 minutes, it suggests you may need to wait a little longer. This ritual-filled experience adds anticipation and fun to your romantic fortune.

Tamatsukuri Yushin Shrine: DIY Energy Stone Amulet

Tamatsukuri Yushin Shrine is famous for blessings of good relationships, safe childbirth, and beautiful skin. Its biggest feature is that you can create your own amulet.
The process is as follows:
1️⃣ After purchasing a “wish-fulfilling stone,” first pray at the worship hall.
2️⃣ Scoop a ladle of water beside the sacred stone and cleanse your wish stone.
3️⃣ Pour water over the sacred stone so your wish stone can absorb its spiritual power.
4️⃣ Make a wish and place your name, address, and wish into the wooden box beside it.
5️⃣ Wrap up your wish stone and take it home. Your personal amulet is complete!
Through this complete ritual, each wish stone carries your hopes and blessings, making it deeply meaningful and memorable.

Seiganji Temple: Pick Up a Brush and Let Jizo Help You Glow

This temple enshrines the famous “Oshiroi Jizo.” Visitors draw the area they wish to beautify on a wooden board, then apply white powder to the Jizo statue to pray for beautiful and healthy skin.

Mononobe Shrine: Adorable Crane Blessings

The main deity of Mononobe Shrine, Umashimaji-no-Mikoto, is said to have descended here riding a crane, which is why the mountain is called “Crane Descending Mountain.” Visitors can try “fortune fishing” to catch their own crane amulet and bring home abundant blessings.

Lake Shinji: Stunning Sunset

The sunset at Lake Shinji is recognized as one of the “Top 100 Sunsets in Japan.” There is even a dedicated website that provides a sunset index. The higher the index, the greater the chance of seeing the sunset. During this visit, the sunset index was 40, yet the view was still absolutely breathtaking.

Matsue Castle: One of Japan’s Only Five National Treasure Castle Keeps

Matsue Castle is the only remaining historic castle keep in the San’in region and was designated a National Treasure in 2015. Built in 1611 by Horio Yoshiharu, its sweeping eaves resemble a bird spreading its wings, earning it the nickname “Chidori Castle.” It is one of only 12 surviving original castle keeps in Japan, holding immense historical and architectural value.
Iwami Ginzan: A World Heritage Site That Once Produced 30% of the World’s Silver

This is the only Edo-period representative mine within the World Heritage Site “Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine and its Cultural Landscape” that is regularly open to the public. The mine was excavated in 1715 and stretches approximately 600 meters. During Japan’s peak silver production era, it accounted for one-third of the world’s silver output, with most of it coming from Iwami Ginzan. Inside the tunnels, you can still see the hand-carved marks left by miners, vividly showcasing the advanced mining techniques and harsh labor conditions of ancient times.
