The palace was built in 1658 by Mitsuhisa, the 19th head of the Shimazu family, as a villa for the Shimazu family, and during the reign of Tadayoshi, the 29th head of the Shimazu family, it temporarily served as the main residence, and was also used as a “”guest house”” for inviting dignitaries from Japan and abroad. Enjoy the beautiful decorations inside the residence and the spectacular view of Sakurajima from the building. In addition, Sengan-en Garden, which covers an area of ​​50,000 square meters, is dotted with various attractions such as history, culture, and nature

2. The main building of Shoko Shuseikan is currently closed to tours due to earthquake-proofing construction
3. Shoko Shuseikan Annex is open
4. Closed on Kagoshima Marathon days (*first Sunday in March)
5. The palace may be closed due to maintenance.
6. In case of stormy weather, the palace may open with the shutters closed
