Introduction｜Sengan-en in Kagoshima
The palace was built in 1658 by Mitsuhisa, the 19th head of the Shimazu family, as a villa for the Shimazu family, and during the reign of Tadayoshi, the 29th head of the Shimazu family, it temporarily served as the main residence, and was also used as a “”guest house”” for inviting dignitaries from Japan and abroad. Enjoy the beautiful decorations inside the residence and the spectacular view of Sakurajima from the building. 2. The main building of Shoko Shuseikan is currently closed to tours due to earthquake-proofing construction
3. Shoko Shuseikan Annex is open
4. Closed on Kagoshima Marathon days (*first Sunday in March)
5. The palace may be closed due to maintenance.
6. In case of stormy weather, the palace may open with the shutters closed
7. If there are many visitors to the palace, admission may be restricted
