Introduction|Shukkeien Garden (Hiroshima)
●Shukkeien is a historic feudal lord’s garden that has been passed down since the Edo period
●Built in 1620, Shukkeien has overcome disasters and celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2020
●Located in central Hiroshima, the garden offers seasonal beauty and calm amid the urban landscape
●Originally constructed in 1620 (Genna 6), Shukkeien Garden has endured significant damage over the centuries, including from a major fire during the Edo period and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Each time, however, it was restored, and in 2020, the garden celebrated its 400th anniversary.
Located in the heart of Hiroshima City, Shukkeien has been carefully refined by successive feudal lords and has largely taken on the appearance we see today. Surrounded by the modern cityscape, the garden offers seasonal beauty throughout the year and is cherished as a peaceful retreat by visitors from both within and outside Hiroshima Prefecture.
